“Hurry up Isaac!” Johannes’ dad, Jeff, screamed from the campsite. “We haven’t got all night!”

“It’s just a night hike,” Isaac whispered to himself as he walked out of the camper.

Isaac and Arthur were on a camping trip over Halloween with their friend Johannes, and his dad, Jeff. The group was embarking on a night hike before they shut the lights off for the night.

“Are you guys prepared? What all did you bring?” asked Jeff.

“Um… just a flashlight,” Arthur replied.

“Perfect. Let’s go.”

The boys exchanged glances and followed Jeff into the woods. It was a fairly dark night. Besides the light of a few stars and lightning bugs, the woods were pitch black. A rough, unpaved trail was blazed through the woods. Isaac could hear the whistling of the stream running along next to them.

“This, young fellows, is what most people call a tree.” Jeff explained to them.

“Wow,” Johannes exclaimed. “I’ve never seen one before!”

“They have these green things called leaves, but in the fall they become red and orange.” Said Jeff.

“I didn’t know night hikes were this fun,” Johannes whispered to himself.

“Alright guys, this is where we enter into the deep part of the forest, the fun part.” Jeff explained.

All of a sudden the group could see a flickering light in the distance. They realized that it was a fire. As they walked closer, Isaac started to hear music playing. The evil tones of the music walked up his back and trickled down, making Isaac shiver. The trees swayed along to the beat of the song. The wind eerily whistled through the air, blowing leaves across Isaac’s face. He backed up, ready to turn around with the rest of his friends. But before he could turn, a hand grabbed him and pushed him forward.

“Let us go to the fire, young children,” demanded Jeff.

“But I’m scared!” Isaac responded.

“Don’t worry, it’ll all be fine!” Jeff responded evilly.

Finally, Jeff, Isaac, Johannes, and Arthur reached the fire. They could see figures in front of the fire, doing what it looked like to be dancing. As they looked closer, they realized the figures had costumes on.

“Is that a clown?” Arthur asked nervously.

No one answered because, in fact, it was a clown. But that wasn’t the only clown. There were five more clowns dancing,

“What should we do, Jeff?” Isaac asked. Jeff didn’t move. He
seemed to be in a trance. Isaac shook him, trying to catch his attention and said, “Hello, Jeff, can you hear me?”

Jeff slowly turned his head towards the boys, and whispered,             “Come on, friends, let us join them.”

“I don’t know if I want to,” Johannes replied.

“I said, LETS JOIN THEM!” He demanded.

The boys obeyed him out of sheer terror and they slowly came out of the forest to the fire. The clowns were lifting someone and passing them around the fire. A clown noticed them and starting walking towards Isaac. He moved closer, and closer, and closer. Isaac started to move back, by the clown kept coming. He looked at his friends, who were frozen, waiting for what would happen. The clown’s hand moved to his pocket. He reached inside and pulled out something. He walked even closer to Isaac. Isaac braced himself for the worst. The clown opened his mouth to talk.

“Noooooo!” Isaac yelled and took of into the forest, with Johannes and Arthur following.

The clown took off in pursuit, while Jeff stood there, dazed. Isaac could hear the footsteps of the clown following them. The boys weaved through the forest, dodging three branches as they tried to escape the clown.

“Ahhhh!” Screamed Johannes as he tripped and fell on the ground.

“Johannes!” Arthur exclaimed. He stopped running to help him.

Isaac knew Arthur and Johannes were done for. He ducked into a bush and hid there, watching to see what the clown would do to them. The clown stopped when he saw the boys on the ground. He pulled out something from his pocket. Arthur was frozen. Neither of them could do anything. They knew it was the end. Isaac looked away, not wanting to see the mutilation of his friends. He heard high pitched squeals of what he could only assume were the sounds of Arthur and Johannes. Tears dripped from his face. He only friends were being ripped apart and few feet from him, and he could do nothing about. He fell on the ground, and then he heard laughing, coming from his friends.

“Wha…?” Isaac whispered as he looked back at the clown.

He was smiling, standing with Arthur and Johannes.
Arthur took a step towards him, and said, “Isaac, the clown wasn’t trying to hurt us! He was trying to give us our own clown noses so we could join their Clown-o-ween party!”

Isaac accepted his clown nose and collapsed on the ground.
